The MISSION of the Aurora R-VIII School District is to provide students with the skill sets necessary for individual growth and success.

The ACTION of the Aurora R-VIII School District is to create a legacy of greatness by embracing tradition, promoting excellence, and demonstrating pride in all we do.

The District's K-12 Special Education Department focuses on what is best for students with special needs. The district is able to serve students in each of the following categories: Autism, Deaf/Blind, Emotionally Disturbed, Hearing Impaired/Deaf, Mental Retardation/Intellectual Disability, Multiple Disabilities, Orthopedically Impaired, Other Health Impaired, Specific Learning Disabilities, Speech Impaired, Language Impaired, Traumatic Brain Injury, Visually Impaired/Blind, and Young Child with a Developmental Delay.

The special education department currently serves over 380 students in its PK-12 grade program. A total of 19 teachers, 4 full-time speech/language pathologists, 1 part-time educational diagnostician, 1 part-time school psychological examiner, and 20 paraprofessionals make up the special education staff. We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated Special Education Staff. We also contract with a company for occupational therapy, physical therapy services, and orientation and mobility services.

The Aurora Special Education Office oversees the following departments: Early Childhood Special Education, Special Education K-12, Medicaid Billing, Section 504 Compliance, and Homebound Instruction.
